SPEECH LANGUAGE THERAPY
Our licensed speech-language pathologists (SLP's) work with children to assess, develop and enhance communication skills.
These skills include speech, language, play and interaction development. The focus of treatment may include oral-motor skills, stuttering, tongue thrust, voice or augmentative communication. As a parent, you are provided with strategies to help your child to communicate better at home and in the community.
The Speech Therapy staff at JOY holds Masters Degrees and are licensed by the State of Georgia. In addition, they have obtained Certificates of Clinical Competence from the American Speech Language and Hearing Association.
PHYSICAL THERAPY
Our licensed physical therapists (PT's) help to reach his/her maximum potential of independent function and to actively participate in home, school, and community environments. Physical therapists are experts in movement, anatomy, physiology, and clinical reasoning, allowing them to treat a wide variety of clinical conditions, as well as to promote health and wellness from infancy through adolescence.
The Physical Therapists at JOY hold Doctoral Degrees and are licensed in the state of Georgia. They each have a unique focus as they perform various continuing education activities to further their passions and special interests in working with children and their families.
OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY
Our licensed occupational therapists (OT's) focus on helping children helping children with a physical, sensory, or cognitive disability be as independent as possible in all areas of their lives.
The therapists can help kids with various needs improve their cognitive, physical, sensory, and motor skills and enhance their self-esteem and sense of accomplishment. Some people may think that occupational therapy is only for adults; kids, after all, do not have occupations. We use a variety of treatment approaches including Sensory integration, the ability of the brain and body to take incoming information and create an efficient motor output.
The Occupational Therapists at JOY are licensed in the state of Georgia.
ORAL MOTOR AND FEEDING THERAPY
Our specially trained therapists work with children to enhance their ability to eat safely and effectively.
Depending on the nature of the child’s feeding difficulties, the therapist and family work together to establish goals and strategies to address issues such as improved oral motor skills needed for sucking, drinking, biting chewing, and swallowing. Oral motor and feeding therapy can address sensory issues around feeding which might include tolerance of the smell, feel and taste of foods.
Feeding therapy is play-based and child-directed, and may occur in an individual or group format, depending on the needs of the child.
EVALUATIONS
Our program offers comprehensive, individualized evaluations to assess a child's skills as well as address concerns reported by parents or caregivers.
EARLY INTERVENTION SERVICES
Through Georgia's early intervention program Babies Can't Wait, we provide home-based therapy and education services to children ages 0 - 3.
CENTER-BASED SERVICES
Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech-Language Therapy and associated programs for children birth to 21.
APPLIED BEHAVIORAL ANALYSIS THERAPY
ABA utilizes a data driven, individualized approach to emphasize positive interactions and engaging learning activities while promoting a child's skills.
